He has a \u201cLaurea\u201d degree in Physics from the Louvain School of Engineering (1990) and a \u201cBachelor\u201d degree in Philosophy (1991). He defended his PhD thesis in Applied Physics in May 1994 at UCL.<br \/>\nHe moved to EPFL in Lausanne (Switzerland) for a two-year postdoctoral stay as a Marie-Curie fellow (1995-96). In 1998, he obtained a permanent position at UCL as a Research Associate of the FNRS of Belgium.
