EUDORA PRO FOR MACINTOSH, Version 4.2.2 This is version 4.2.2 of Eudora Pro for Macintosh. This Read Me provides information on the following topics: * Minimum Requirements * Installation * Additional Software * Bug Reports * Requests for Features MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS To use Eudora Pro 4.2.2 for Macintosh, you must have the following: * Macintosh with 68020, 68030, 68040 or PowerPC processor. * Macintosh OS System 7.1.2 or above. * An Internet mail account which utilizes the POP3 or IMAP protocol with an Internet Service Provider or otherwise on the network. * Access to the mail account via a dedicated TCP/IP (Internet) network connection or via PPP dial-up networking through a modem. INSTALLATION Note: Eudora Pro for Macintosh 4.2.2 may be installed over any existing copy of Eudora. To install Eudora Pro for Macintosh 4.2.2, do the following: 1. Make a backup copy of your existing Eudora Folder (usually located in your System Folder), and make a backup copy of your existing Eudora Pro application folder, and put the two copies in a separate area. 2. Quit any applications you are running. 3. Remove any plug-ins that did not come with the Eudora Pro software. 4. If installing off of a CD, insert the Eudora Pro 4.2.2 CD into your CD drive. 5. Double-click on the Eudora Pro 4.2.2 installer icon to start the installation program. The Eudora Pro splash screen is displayed. Click Continue to display the Eudora Read Me window. Once you have reviewed the contents of the Read Me window, click Continue to display the License Agreement. Note: The contents of the Read Me and License Agreement windows can be printed or saved to a file for later review. 6. Once you have reviewed the contents of the license agreement, if you agree, click Agree. The User Code dialog is displayed. 7. Your five-digit User Code is printed on your Technical Support Information card. If you are part of a multiple-user site, it should be provided to you by your organization's Eudora support coordinator. If you purchased Eudora Pro by electronic distribution, the User Code is in the email message you received when you purchased the product. Type your User Code in the User Code field and click Continue. Note: If you cannot determine your User Code, you may leave this field blank. The Eudora Install dialog is displayed, allowing you to select which items you want to install. To see a description of an item, click on the item (the description is displayed just below the selection area). 8. To install all of the items, be sure the default item Full Eudora Pro Installation is selected and click Install. To install just the items you want, select them by clicking on each one, then click Install. The Eudora Version Selection dialog is displayed, allowing you to select which version you want to install. 680x0 This version is for older 680x0 machines. It does not run on Power Macs, but it will take up less room on your hard drive than the universal install. PowerPC This version runs only on Power Macintoshes. It does not run on standard 680x0 machines. Universal This version requires the most disk space. It runs on any supported Macintosh. 9. Select the version you want. A dialog is displayed asking you where you want to install the Eudora Pro Folder. 10. Select the destination folder and click Install. The install program begins installing the items you selected onto the appropriate locations on your disk. If you wish to install over an existing copy of Eudora, select its folder as the destination now. 11. Once the installation is complete, you may be prompted to restart your Macintosh. Click Restart. This completes the installation of the Eudora Pro software. To find out how to set up Eudora so that you can send and receive e-mail, see the User Manual section "Opening and Configuring Eudora." For details about the files in the master Eudora Folder that have just been updated or installed in your System Folder (this holds all your mail and other important files), as well as the Eudora Pro Folder that you've just installed in the destination dialog above, see their corresponding sections in the Reference Manual. (The Eudora Pro Folder is also called the Eudora Pro Application Folder: it is the folder that contains your Eudora application.) ADDITIONAL SOFTWARE Acrobat ReaderŽ 4.0 We include an installer for Acrobat ReaderŽ version 4.0 with your purchase of Eudora Pro. Acrobat ReaderŽ version 4.0 allows you to open, read, and print the Eudora Pro 4.2 User Manuals located in the Eudora Pro folder within the Documentation folder. QuickTime 3.0.2 Install QuickTime to display inline graphics, play movies and sounds within your email messages. Included in the QuickTime folder is version 3.0.2. If you've installed a more recent version of QuickTime, Eudora will use that version automatically. BUG REPORTS If you experience something you think might be a bug in Eudora Pro, please report it by sending a message to mac-eudora-bugs@qualcomm.com. Describe what you did, what happened, what version of Eudora you have, any error messages Eudora gave (the numbers in {}'s are especially important), what kind of computer you have, what version of System Software you're using, and anything else you think might be relevant. You will receive an automated response indicating that your bug report has been received and forwarded to our engineering staff.
